Description
This artifact is an authentic, large-format Deutsche Reichsbahn eagle (railway emblem), produced by Rheinmetall-Borsig of Düsseldorf/Berlin. Measuring approximately 27 inches in width and 14 inches in height, it exceeds the more commonly encountered 24-inch examples, reflecting a less frequently seen size variant.
The piece remains in excellent condition and retains its original machined mounting studs. The reverse is marked with material composition codes “GAL – Mg – (Hy),” indicating its alloy structure and manufacturing specifications.
Railway eagles of this type were mounted on locomotives as prominent insignia of the national rail system. Larger examples such as this are comparatively scarce, and well-preserved specimens provide valuable insight into industrial production standards and the visual identity of transportation infrastructure during the period.
