Description
This artifact is a well-preserved Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD) flagpole finial, representing the state labor organization of Germany during the period. Measuring approximately 12¼ inches in height and 9½ inches in width, the piece exhibits strong detail and retains its original character. It was manufactured by Gebrüder Cosack, with appropriate maker’s markings present.
The RAD functioned as a national labor service, established to address unemployment while promoting state-directed labor initiatives. Participation was structured along gender lines, with separate divisions for men and women, and the organization played a role in broader economic mobilization and workforce structuring.
As a ceremonial object, this finial served as a symbol of organizational identity and presence. Artifacts of this type provide insight into the institutional frameworks and visual culture associated with state-sponsored labor programs during this period.
