This artifact is an authentic, large-format Deutsche Reichsbahn eagle (railway emblem), representing the insignia used by the German national railway system during the period. Marked “GJ,” the piece measures approximately 28 inches in width and 15¾ inches in height—noticeably larger than the more commonly encountered 24-inch examples.
The eagle retains excellent condition, with original unfinished mounting studs present, and is marked with material composition codes “GAL – Mg – (Si),” indicating its alloy structure. The scale and preservation of this example distinguish it within this category of railway insignia.
As an object, it reflects the visual identity and industrial infrastructure of the national railway system. Larger variants such as this are comparatively scarce, and their survival provides valuable insight into manufacturing standards and the prominence of symbolic emblems within transportation networks of the era.
