Nazi German Railroad Eagle – Deutsche Reichsbahn Adler 24″

Description

This artifact is an exceptional example of a Deutsche Reichsbahn eagle (railway emblem), identified as a Bernhard Pinter PS LOK 600 type and measuring approximately 60 cm (23¾ inches) in width. The piece is preserved in outstanding condition and represents an unissued example, lacking final machining—suggesting it remained at the factory stage prior to completion.

The casting quality is notably high, with a clean surface free from the irregularities often associated with later production runs, such as slag inclusions or mold wear. This level of finish indicates careful manufacturing and provides insight into early production standards.

The reverse bears typical material composition and production markings, including “GAL – Mg – Si,” denoting an aluminum-based alloy, as well as “LOK,” “RZA 5,” and “BERL,” referencing locomotive use, railway designation, and manufacture in Berlin.

Railway eagles of this type served as prominent insignia on locomotives, symbolizing the identity of the national rail system. Unissued examples such as this are particularly informative, offering a rare glimpse into production processes and quality control prior to final assembly and deployment.
